Reason for the temple name:

It is said that the town was given the name Marugathalai because it was the head of the other side of the Sri Vallabha Pereri (Seevalaperi) lake, and the head of the Swamiji was on the other side of the lake.

The reason for the name Pouludaiyar Sastha :
It is said that this sastha was earlier known as Poolathi plant inter-discoverer sashta and Poolathi inter-sasta and later changed to Pool Udayar sastha as it was found among the Poolathi plants in Chera Nadu.

Temple Structure:
This temple is located atop a hill. Stairs are built from the bottom to the top of the temple. In the temple below the hill, the presiding deities are Sivananaintha Perumal, Karuppasamy, Palavesa Karuppasamy, Thalavaimadan, Chappani Maadan, Pattavarayan, Kombu Maadan, and Kombu Madathi.

The location or route:
It is located 18 kilometers from the city. The temple is located on a hillock next to the town of Seevalaperi. Buses plying from Tirunelveli to Tirunelveli use this route. On the occasion of Panguni Uthiram, government buses are operated from Devotees Bus Stand to Marugalathalai via Seevalaperi.
